The Eden Mills Writers’ Festival (EMWF) has announced four online writing workshops for early September, but organizers warn they are selling out quickly.
“Our workshops for aspiring writers have always been very popular,” said Melissa McGrath, EMWF festival manager.
McGrath said he has received praise for the accessibility of his online programming over the past two years and said he learned by hosting virtual events.
“While we are delighted to return to an in-person festival at Eden Mills this year, we are also committed to integrating online options into our year-round programming,” McGrath said.
Are you an aspiring writer looking to learn more about the business and hone your skills? EMWF authors discuss writing, editing, publishing and more in these workshops:
1.Nothing More Than Feelings with Ian Williams: September 8 at 6 p.m.
This poetry workshop aims to replace clichéd and predictable feelings with ones that have complexity and resonance. You will generate new material and come away with strategies that can be immediately implemented in your work. No prior poetic experience is necessary.
2.The Editing and Revision Toolkit with Marissa Stapley: September 10 at 10 a.m.
Learn about editing and revising a manuscript from a New York Times bestselling author. This course covers the basics of online editing as well as an in-depth exploration of editing to make your writing shine. Marissa Stapley will also share some secrets about the inner workings of the publishing world.
3.The Publishing Process 101 with Heather Marshall: September 10 at 1 p.m.
The author of the best-selling novel Looking for Jane wants you to know about the publishing process and how to produce the best possible manuscript. She’ll also discuss finding a literary agent, submitting manuscripts to publishers, and the business aspects of your writing career so you can set yourself up for success.
4.Writing Romance with Farah Heron: September 10 at 3 p.m.
Looking to break into the billion dollar romance industry or spruce up your fiction? This workshop covers topics such as romantic tropes, character archetypes, subgenres, physical vapor, and romantic arcs.
