(Re)writing History Creative Writing Workshops

Knights Theater is delighted to offer an exciting opportunity to take part in a series of creative writing workshops held at Dundee Central Library to tell stories about Dundee’s social history.

Over 5 weeks, participants will work with Knights Theatre’s Playwright and Artistic Director, Matthew Knights, to write and develop stories that will be inspired by ‘Dundee Streets’ and empower locals to creatively tell their stories.

You can be a newbie writer with a burning story to tell or someone who has written before – all are welcome!

The first workshop will include a tour of The Street exhibition at McManus Gallery to inspire and unlock ideas. The Street exhibition is a reconstruction of some of Dundee’s iconic shops and venues from past and will help shape the stories attendees may want to tell.

After the initial visit to the museum, there will then be three creative writing workshops at Dundee Central Library led by Matthew and finally, during the fifth week, a sharing of the work with a small invited audience.

Dates: 11 a.m.-1 p.m. on Tuesdays August 16, 23, 30, September 6 with work sharing on September 13 (4 p.m.-6 p.m.).

Cost: Workshops cost £25 for 5 workshops.

There are a limited number of free workshop places available for people with low incomes.

Reservation: Places are limited to 10 participants.

To reserve a place, please email [email protected] by Wednesday 10 August with a bit about yourself, where you live and if you would like to apply for free workshop space.
