Dare County Library to Host Two Free Writing Workshops in May 2022

The Dare County Library announced that its popular Adult Library Enrichment Series will continue throughout May with the following two free writing workshops, which will be held virtually via Zoom.

“Write Your Heart Out”

Friday, May 6 from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m.

Are you a writer but don’t know how to get your words published? Or maybe you want to build a daily writing practice and don’t know where to start. You can do it! This workshop provides the tools you’ll need to develop a thriving writing practice and also discusses the personal benefits of pursuing this creative outlet.

There will be tips on how to get your work published by publications and platforms, and a high-level overview of the process and steps needed to publish a book will also be shared.

This writing workshop will be presented by Donna Y. Ferris, author of “We’ve Got to Stop Meeting Like This – A Memoir of Missed Connection”.

“Bringing Order to Chaos: Finding and Creating History”

Tuesday, May 10 from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m.

Fiction writing, as an act of imagination, begins with limitless possibilities in terms of ideas, story, style, voice, order, sequence, arc, strokes. character, decor, etc. How are creative choices made among the endless possibilities? How and where does a story begin? How is it “found?” When is it “settled?” Is it already “done”? Where does the development of craftsmanship come from? What are its dangers?

Join author Walter Bennett, author of the Outer Banks novel, “The Last First Kiss,” for a Q&A session about his craft as a writer. Authors looking for insight and inspiration on their own writing can ask Bennett for guidance and advice during this workshop.
